Your elopement can be more than hiking to a beautiful overlook. Build your wedding day around the things that you genuinely love doing together or a place with special meaning.
Think of your elopement less like a photoshoot, and more like the bet date you have ever been on.
- Boat tour to a secluded island- Whether its the middle of the ocean, river or a lake, there is something special about being the only ones around (added bonus, Captains make great officiants).
- Rent a cabin for the weekend- Turn your elopement into a whole weekend. After the ceremony, head back to the cabin for a romantic candle lit dinner just the two of you and a first dance around the campfire. Instead of a cake cutting, share smor'es.
- Go canoeing or kayaking- If you feel more at home on the water, then build your day around it. Paddle across a quiet lake, stop somewhere secluded for your ceremony and then explore the shoreline together.
- Go horseback riding- Explore an ancient forrest or an open meadow before finding a quiet place to exchange vows. Theres just something romantic about it.
- Bring your dog- Your pets are part of your family so bring them along for the adventure.
- Rent a sailboat- A sunset cruise with the love of your life. Barefoot with the wind in your hair and the ocean laid out before you. Bring the champagne and a cheese plate and just soak it all in.
- Whiskey/Wine tasting- Find a local brewery or distillery and try one of everything! Or, travel to your favorite winery or distillery and book a private tour.
- Get matching tattoos- Now I'm not suggesting you get each others names on your butt cheeks, but maybe something a little more subtle and meaningful. Imagine being dressed to the nines in a super cute, short, white dress and your hubby with his suit jacket thrown over the back of the chair and his sleeves rolled up. That certainly makes a statement that you're in it 4ever!
- Recreate your first date- Was it a movie and Italian food, or was it a dive bar with a pool table, neon lights and a dart board? You saw a glimpse of your future that day, how cool is that to think about?
- End the day at an Irish pub- this one works best for a European elopement as pub culture is huge. Make new friends and have a pint of the dark stuff to the soundtrack of fiddles and raucous laughter.
No matter how you choose to celebrate your union, just keep one thing in mind. Your elopement doesn't have to look like anyone elses. You chose to elope because there are no rules and that should always be at the back of your mind. The most meaningful elopement aren't necessarily the ones with the best views, they are the ones that you can look back on and say "That day really felt like us."
Instead of asking Where should we elope, try asking yourselves What would we actually like to do together on our wedding day? Start there. I'll help you build the adventure around the answer.
